要　旨　関東山地の秩父盆地北方の皆野町，吉田町，小鹿野町，神泉村などに分布する秩父累帯北帯について調査し，放散虫などの生層序にもとづき地質学的研究をすすめ，本調査地域の形成史を考察した．本調査地域には構造的下位より柏木ユニット，上吉田ユニットおよび風早峠ユニットの3ユニットが認められ，さらに上吉田ユニットは構造的下位より女形サブユニットおよび城峯サブユニットに分けられる．本調査地域のユニットの形成年代はジュラ紀古世後期からジュラ紀新世までおよぶと考えられる．各ユニットは付加体から構成され，構造的下位のユニットに向かって形成年代が次第に若くなるという特徴があるが，秩父累帯南帯にみられるような北から南に向かって若くなるという年代極性は認められない．これらは付加体形成 後の各ユニットの再配列にともなう構造運動の結果と考えられる．

Geology of the Northern part of the Chichibu Belt in the Kanto Mountains

Abstract
　　The strata located in the northern part of the Chichibu Belt, encompassing the Minano, Yoshida and Kamiizumi districts in the Kanto Mountains are divided into three units and two subordinate units based on the biostratigraphic and lithologic investigations. They are Kashiwagi, Kamiyoshida and Kazahaya-toge units in structurally ascending order, and the Kamiyoshida unit contains the Onagata and Jomine subordinate units. The age determined by radiolarian fossils in the mudstones and siliceous rocks is from the late Early Jurassic to the Late Jurassic. Judging from the biostratigraphic data of each of the units, two facts are recognized. The first is that the ages of the units are younger downward, and the second is that the arrangement of units does not show any tendency towards being younger southward unlike southern part of the Chichibu belt. It is considered that the rearrangement of accretion materials during or after the Jurassic era was one of the most important processes in the northern part of the Chichibu belt.
