1．秩父盆地南西縁部において従来秩父系とされてきたものが，第三系礫岩層であることがわかった．
2．この礫岩層は，馬上礫岩層ならびに一部は宮戸層に相当するものである．
3．秩父盆地南西縁では，この礫岩層が白泰断層を介して秩父系と接している．
4．白泰断層の主な活動はこの第三系礫岩層の堆積とほぼ同時期で，それは中新世前期と考えられる．
5．この礫岩層は，白泰断層による南側の地塊の隆起にともなう崖錐様あるいは扇状地様の海底堆積物であると考える．
6．本礫岩層を切る，南北性の断層が認められる．

Tertiary conglomerates, distributed on the southwestern
margin of the Chichibu Basin, central Japan

Abstract lt has been asserted by many investigators (WATANABE　et　al., 1950; ARAI & KANNO, 1960 ; HISADA, 1984) that the strata distributed on the southwestern margin of the Chichibu Basin were the sheared Chichibu System.
　　The authors of the present paper have reached the conclusion that it is not the Chichibu System but the Tertiary conglomerates of the Chichibu Basin that is distributed there. They also claim that it was brought out by the uplift of the Hakutai Fault and the southern land of the old Chichibu Bay (Chichibu Basin).
