Abstract The survey of small mammal fauna was carried out in Okegawa City (36°0′N, 135°33′E, alt. 12 to 25m), Saitama Prefecture, from 1983 to 1988.
There were collected 4 species, Apodemus speciosus, Microtus monlebelli, Crocidura dsinemmi and Mogera wogura, and admitted the habitation of Micromys minutus by the nest. A. speciosus and M. wogura were widely distributed in Okegawa City, but M. monlebelli was admitted the wasteland, pasture and abandoned paddies along the waterway. C. dsinezumi was caught only wasteland in the riverside Arakawa.
In the riverside Arakawa, it was admitted the seasonal variation of species composition, arid M. montebelli was not captured in winter. Furthermore, the number of captured of M. montebelli decreased from 1986 to 1988, on the other hand, that of A. speciosus increased a little in 1987. These results were discussed with other reports.
