Abstract The survey of the ectoparasite fauna of Microtus montebelli was carried out in the pasture on the embankment along the river Arakawa, Okegawa City, Saitama Prefecture from December 1975 to November 1976. The number of mammals were totaled 935, consisting of 933 M. montebelli, one Apodemus speciosus and one Crocidura dsinezumi. The number of mites and insects were totaled 2197, consisting of 8 families, 12 genera, 13 species were obtained from M. montebelli.
Among the parasites collected, Laelapidae were the most abundant (80.3%) and Trombiculidae, Myobiidae and so on were obtained, too. Androlaelaps (Haemolaelaps) fahrenholzi and Laelaps microti were considered as the representative parasitic mites of M. montebelli.
As regards the seasonal fluctuation of mites, the various stages except larva in the life-cycle of A. (H.) fahrenholzi was taken especially in winter and autumn.
As for Anoplura, remarkable changes of seasonal appearence were not recognized.
